Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re new to Scouting, then you probably have many questions. Here are some answers to the frequent ones we get.

  • When do you meet? Pack 673 generally meets as a pack on the third Thursday of each month at 7 pm at Great Falls Elementary. Individual dens meet on their own about weekly, at a time and location that the den leader chooses.

  • What does it cost? Pack 673 has annual dues of $240.

  • Can girls join? Yes! Girls are welcome! All we ask is that if girls join a den, there must be at least one female leader who has completed Youth Protection training, which is an easy and free online course offered through the BSA organization.

  • What kind of commitment is expected from parents? Cub scouts is a parent-lead organization, and the more parents put in to it, the more the scouts will get out of it. We are always looking for parent volunteers to help be den leaders, assistant den leaders, committee members, event organizers (e.g., of Pinewood derby, camping outings), and more. While there is no fixed commitment expected from parents, we ask that everyone please get involved.

  • What kinds of activities do you do? The pack typically organizes a campout in the fall and another in the spring. The pack also organizes Scouting for Food and various fundraisers. Beyond that, each den plans its own set of age-appropriate activities, and most scouting activities are done as a den. Last year dens went to the Great Falls fire station, went on bike rides, did nature hikes, explored native plants, learned about pottery, went kayaking, and played many many games. Cub Scouting is very flexible, and so can be as adaptable as necessary based on the scouts (and availability of the parents).

  • Do I need prior Scouting experience? No. We have parents who were Eagle Scouts, and parents who have no Scouting experience at all. Come eager to learn, and you will be fine. Cub Scouting is the beginning of an exciting (and long) journey through Scouting!

  • Who designed this website? Look, we’re Scout parent volunteers, not web designers. Please get involved to help improve it!
